These Yukon Cornelius pull-apart cupcakes are SO fun and adorable! Perfect for sharing with friends and family this holiday season while watching Rudolph! :) I used my favorite vanilla cupcake recipe for these Christmas pull-apart cupcakes, but you can use whatever flavor or recipe you want to make them to your liking! I hope that you enjoy this recipe as much as I do, and I hope that you have a safe and cozy Holiday season.

How To Make Yukon Cornelius Pull-Apart Cupcakes
This recipe is so much easier to make than you might think. The cupcakes come together so easily, and once they’re baked and the buttercream is made, the decorating (the fun part!) is all that’s left.
- Preheat and prep:
Preheat the oven to 350°F and line your cupcake pan with parchment liners. - Mix dry ingredients:
In a small bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside. - Cream butter and sugar:
In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar with an electric mixer for 3–5 minutes, until light and fluffy. - Add eggs and vanilla:
Mix in eggs one at a time, followed by vanilla extract. - Combine wet and dry ingredients:
Alternate adding dry ingredients and buttermilk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with the dry. Mix just until combined — don’t overmix. - Bake:
Fill cupcake liners about ¾ full. Bake for 12–15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Allow to cool completely before decorating.

- Make the buttercream:
Beat butter for 3–4 minutes until pale and creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, mixing between each addition. Add vanilla and 3 Tbsp. cream, then whip for another 3–5 minutes until fluffy. Adjust consistency with more cream if needed. - Color the frosting:
Divide the buttercream into bowls and tint with gel food dyes — red, light skin tone, yellow, black, white, and burnt orange. Place each color into a piping bag. - Assemble and decorate:
Arrange the cooled cupcakes in the pattern: 1, 2, 3, 5, 4, 5, 4 (top to bottom). Start decorating from the top (hat) to the bottom (beard), using reference photos as a guide.- Use red for his hat.
- Swirl white frosting for his beard using a small star tip.
- Smooth the flat areas with an offset spatula for a clean look.
- Enjoy!
Your festive Yukon Cornelius pull-apart cupcakes are ready to steal the spotlight at your next holiday gathering.

Recipe Tips
- Room temperature ingredients are key to a smooth batter and even baking.
- Use gel food coloring for vibrant colors that don’t thin the buttercream.
- Cool cupcakes completely before frosting — even slightly warm cupcakes can melt your buttercream.
- Plan your layout ahead of time. Arrange cupcakes on a large board or cake board before frosting to ensure spacing looks right.
Decorating Tips
- Start with the big sections (hat and beard) before adding details like the mustache or face.
- Use different piping tips:
- Small round for facial details
- Star tip for beard texture
- Flat spatula for smoothing the hat and face areas
- Add edible sparkle or sanding sugar to make his hat pop on your dessert table.
- Keep a reference image nearby to guide placement and color blending.

Tips For Making Buttercream
- Whip it long enough! Properly aerated buttercream should be light, fluffy, and not greasy.
- Avoid over-beating after adding color — mix until just combined to prevent breaking the texture.
- If you’re piping intricate details, chill the frosting bags for 10–15 minutes so the buttercream holds its shape better.
- For an extra-smooth consistency, sift the powdered sugar before mixing.
