How To Make Halloween Ghost Brownies

Bake the Brownies:
Prepare the brownie mix according to the directions on the box. Bake in a 9″ x 9″ square pan lined with parchment paper, leaving excess parchment hanging over the sides for easy removal.
Allow the brownies to cool completely before decorating.
Prepare the Icing:
While the brownies are baking and cooling, stir together the confectioner’s sugar, vanilla extract, and water (adding 1 tsp. at a time) until the icing is smooth and flows nicely.
If the icing is too watery and looks transparent when lifted with a spoon, add more confectioner’s sugar. If it’s too thick, add more water.
Cover the bowl with a damp rag to prevent the icing from drying out until ready to use.
Assemble the Ghost Brownies:
Once the brownies have cooled completely, cut them into 9 even squares.
Place the icing into a piping bag and pipe a small dollop on top of each brownie square. Top each dollop with a jumbo marshmallow to stick it on nicely.
Let the marshmallows sit on the brownies for a few minutes to firm up. Then, starting at the top of each marshmallow, pipe the icing down to coat the marshmallow and allow some icing to pool on top of the brownie, creating a ghostly shape.
Add Ghostly Features:
Dye a small amount of the remaining icing black and use it to add facial features to each ghost after the white icing has set.
Enjoy your spooky treats!

Ingredients

  • 1 box brownie mix of your choice (I used Betty Crocker)

  • 9 large marshmallows

  • 1 3/4 cups confectioner’s sugar

  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

  • 2-3 tsp. water

  • 1-2 drops black food gel

Directions

  • Bake the brownie mix according to the directions on the box in a 9″ x 9″ square pan lined with parchment paper with excess hanging out of the sides for an easy release. Allow the brownies to cool completely before decorating.
  • While the brownies bake/ cool you can prepare the icing. Stir the confectioner’s sugar, vanilla extract and 1 tsp. of water at a time until the icing is nice and smooth and flows nicely. If the icing is too watery and starts to look transparent when lifted with a spoon then you can add more confectioner’s sugar. Alternatively, if the icing is too thick, add more water. Set the icing aside at room temperature covering the bowl with a damp rag to prevent it from drying out until we use it later on.
  • Once the brownies have cooled completely, slice them into 9 even squares.
  • Place the icing into a piping bag then pipe a small dime sized dollop of icing on top of each brownie one at a time topping each dollop with a marshmallow to stick it on nicely.
  • Let the marshmallows sit on the brownies for a few minutes to firm up then starting at the top of each marshmallow, pipe your way down coating the marshmallow and sides of the ghost in icing allowing a little bit of the excess icing to pool on top of the brownie to look like a ghost.
  • Dye a small amount of the remaining icing black and add facial features on each ghost after the white icing has set.
  • Enjoy!
