Puppy Chow V.S Muddy Buddies

Honestly, aren’t they the same? There was a heated debate on a video I posted last year when I had asked everyone what they call this delicious treat. Apparently there are a lot of wonderfully passionate people out there with whole hearted opinions on what to call this dessert. I’ve heard everything from Muddy Buddies, Puppy Chow, Reindeer Chow, Monkey Munch…

Personally, I’ve always known this treat to be called Muddy Buddies. Whatever you want to call them, they’re always just as delicious.

Making Halloween Muddy Buddies

The process for this simple and delicious dessert is very easy. The most important steps are ensuring that the chocolate, peanut butter, butter mixture is perfectly smooth before adding it to the chex. A lumpy, uneven mixture will result in a less than ideal end result. No one wants Muddy Buddy with a lil clump of butter. Maybe a select few out there would love that…but let’s do our best to avoid that 🙂

Slow and steady wins the race. Mel this mixture on low heat to ensure that everything is melting evenly and slowly. We also don’t want chocolate burning at the bottom of our pan so be sure to use a silicone spatula to help everything combine and melt evenly.

Feel free to add vanilla extract to the peanut butter chocolate mixture for some added flavor. While we’re on the topic, you can always add in different mix-ins too. If you want to replace the Reese’s Pieces with Halloween colored M&M’s go for it!! Whatever you want to replace or add in – never hesitate. Always be creative and have fun in the kitchen. Especially with a recipe as easy as this!

You can use corn chex instead of rice chex as well. Whatever chex mix you decide with, the quantities will remain the same. As for using semi-sweet chocolate chips, you can also replace this for dark chocolate, milk chocolate, even white chocolate. The best part about this dessert is that you can customize it to your liking. These truly make for the most delicious treat, as well as perfect goody bags for your kids Halloween parties or events!
