- Preheat and Prepare: Begin by preheating your oven to 375 degrees F and lining two cookie sheets with parchment paper.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a medium-sized bowl, use an electric mixer to combine the butter and granulated sugar until smooth, about 2 minutes. Add the egg, egg yolk, vanilla extract, and vegetable oil, mixing well.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, black cocoa powder, cornstarch, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until a soft dough forms. Add milk as needed to ensure the dough comes together.
- Shape and Bake: Scoop the dough into tablespoon-sized portions and roll into balls. Place the dough balls onto the prepared cookie sheets and gently flatten with the palm of your hand. Bake for 7-8 minutes, until set but still soft.
- Prepare Filling: While the cookies cool, prepare the filling. In a mixing bowl, combine softened butter, confectioner’s sugar, marshmallow fluff, and vanilla extract. Gradually add heavy cream until the filling reaches a smooth consistency.
- Assemble Cakesters: Once the cookies have cooled completely, spread a generous dollop of filling onto the bottom of one cookie and sandwich it with another. Repeat until all cookies are filled.
- Enjoy: Indulge in the deliciousness of your homemade Oreo Cakesters! Serve them as a delightful treat for dessert, snack time, or any occasion.

It’s really hard to find black cocoa powder in canada. Can you share a link or maybe a substitute?
I ordered mine from Amazon. They sell both regular and black. Both will come up when you ask for black cocoa powder so make sure you read the description. It is more expensive than regular coca powder but the results are fantastic.
Hi! How can the recipe be changed to make the golden cakesters? My son doesn’t eat chocolate. TIA!
I use to buy these from the Amish Children in Iowa. They would have a stand at the end of their drive way, that sold Cookies, Breads also Jams and Jellies. Since we moved to Arkansas about 12 yrs ago in our area no Amish. So happy to have this. Amish call these Whoopie Cookies..Yummy
